The National Exit Test (NExT), which was intended for the final year MBBS batch, has been postponed based on the advice of the Ministry of Health. A communication from the top medical education regulator has informed all stakeholders about this decision and stated that the test will be deferred until further instructions.

The NExT was designed to replace the final MBBS exam, serving as a licensure exam for medical practice registration and as a criterion for admission to postgraduate courses, replacing the NEET PG test.

The primary goal of the NExT was to ensure a focus on practical training and uniform educational standards for all medical students. However, the graduating students of the current year have been demanding a postponement of the examination, citing insufficient time to prepare for the new format.

The Health Minister had previously announced that the upcoming MBBS batch would be subjected to the new examination. AIIMS Delhi is conducting a mock test for the NExT exam on July 28, but there is no clarity on the exam date till now.
