Aspiring medical students across India are eagerly waiting for the registration process for NEET UG 2025 to begin. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has scheduled the exam for May 4, 2025, but the registration dates have not been officially announced yet, leaving students anxious about the next steps.
Expected Registration Timeline
Typically, NEET UG registrations open months before the exam. With the return to its pre-pandemic format, many expected the process to have started by now. However, reports suggest that the registration portal may open between the last week of February and the first week of March 2025.
Key Changes in NEET UG 2025
To ensure a smooth and fair examination process, the NTA has introduced several updates. Here’s what aspirants need to know:
Apaar ID Requirement (Jan 14, 2025): Initially, students were required to use the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (Apaar ID) for registration.
Pen-and-Paper Mode (Jan 16, 2025): The exam will be conducted in the traditional offline mode in a single shift. NEET UG scores will be used for admissions in courses like BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, BHMS, and BSc Nursing.
BDS Course Inclusion (Jan 17, 2025): NEET UG scores will now also be accepted for Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) admissions.
Relaxation on Apaar ID (Jan 24, 2025): The NTA later announced that Apaar ID is no longer mandatory, making the registration process more flexible for students.
Exam Duration Reduced (Jan 25, 2025): The exam will now follow the traditional three-hour format as optional questions have been removed, reducing the duration by 20 minutes.
Why the Delay in Registrations?
The delay in opening the registration portal has led to speculation among students. Possible reasons include technical adjustments and procedural changes due to the expanded use of NEET UG scores for multiple courses. The NTA is expected to release an official notification soon.
What Should Aspirants Do?
While waiting for the registration to begin, students should focus on:
Revising the complete syllabus.
Familiarising themselves with the latest exam pattern.
Keeping necessary documents ready for a smooth registration process.
With lakhs of students competing for limited seats in top medical colleges, thorough preparation and timely registration are crucial. Stay updated with official announcements from the NTA to avoid any last-minute hassles.
