Apeejay School, Nerul, recently organised an investiture ceremony, affirming the age-old adage, “Leaders are not born, they are made.” With a strong commitment to nurturing leadership qualities in their young students, the school conducted the ceremony for the academic year 2023-24, brimming with enthusiasm and earnestness.

Colonel Yashpal Kajla, the esteemed chief guest, was warmly welcomed with a floral greeting. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by P Subhash, the school principal, Preety Gupta, vice-principal, and the coordinators. Addressing the gathering, the principal lauded the prefectorial members for their remarkable achievement in joining the esteemed leadership council of the school, which would now guide the path towards excellence. He emphasised the vital traits of a true leader, stating, “Integrity and selflessness are highly requisite traits of a true leader. A leader has to rise above his own self and be fully dedicated to his duties.”

Drawing from his military leadership experience, the chief guest offered words of encouragement to the newly elected council, urging them to lead with humility, determination, and confidence.

The newly appointed leaders were conferred sashes, badges, and respective flags, symbolising the mantle of accountability and confidence bestowed upon the office bearers as they embraced their new roles and responsibilities.

Introducing the House masters, the students were reassured that they would not be alone in this new journey, as the teachers in school would provide continuous support and guidance. The senior house captains read excerpts from the prefects’ handbook, covering topics such as “who is a prefect,” “benefits of an effective house system,” “principles of prefectship,” and “the duties of the prefect of Apeejay School, Nerul.”

The school choir delivered a patriotic song, enchanting the audience with their melodious voices. Nandan Sensharma, the head boy, spoke on leadership and motivation, while head girl, Zara Jahangir, addressed the topic: “Respecting our alma mater.”

The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks and the whole gathering singing the school song and national anthem, resonating with the day’s objective, and fostering a spirit of unity and pride.
