Parth Kaushik, who pursued PGDM in Marketing and Finance from ASM, is working with his father, who owns a non-banking financial company (NBFC). Prior to this, he worked as a junior relationship executive at Muthoot Finance. In an interview, Parth talks about his future goals. Edited excerpt:

Why did you want to pursue an MBA?

I wanted to nourish my communication skills and salesmanship. I wanted to prepare myself to join my father’s business and help it grow further. After completing the degree, I bagged a job in Muthoot Finance. I worked there till June this year and now I am involved in our family business.

Did you always plan to work with your father?

Yes, that was the plan from the beginning. My stint at Muthoot was to gain experience and learn more about the field.

What work are you involved in at your father’s company?

We provide consumer loans and two-wheeler vehicle loans. Now, we are venturing into gold loans which are secured loans. My job is to expand our gold loan business. I have started meeting clients. It has been a learning experience.

What did you learn at Muthoot?

I learned a lot by interacting with customers. I was also involved in cross-selling involving gold coins, insurance, and other products.

Tell us about your experience at ASM.

The professors at ASM, especially Chhaya ma’am and Parul ma’am, mentored me very well. I had stage fear and hesitated to speak in front of others. Thanks to ASM, I have been able to improve a lot. At college, I performed on stage and gave many presentations as part of my curriculum, which boosted my confidence. The skills I picked up during my course are helping me now to grow in my professional career.

You have just begun your professional journey. What do you want to achieve?

Right now, Muthoot Finance is the number one NBFC in gold loans. My dream is to grow our business even bigger and make it the number one NBFC in India.
