Math Week at this school begins with enthusiasm and creativity

The much-anticipated Math Week kick-started at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, with an engaging assembly on December 23, 2024. The event marked the birth anniversary, (on December 22) of the renowned Indian mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan, whose contributions to Mathematics remain unparalleled. The Day 1 assembly highlighted his life and work through an inspiring narrative and a thought-provoking video on persistence and purpose. 

The students learnt about Ramanujan’s groundbreaking achievements, including his number theory and infinite series contributions. This tribute honoured the legacy of a mathematical genius and encouraged students to embrace the world of numbers with enthusiasm and curiosity. 

According to Ms Harjeet Kaur, TGT Mathematics at the school: “Math Week is a wonderful opportunity to ignite curiosity and build confidence in students when it comes to mathematics. By blending creative activities with meaningful lessons, we aim to make math approachable and enjoyable for every learner. Events like these help students understand that Mathematics is not just a subject but a life skill, essential for problem-solving and critical thinking in their everyday lives.”

Celebrating India’s Contributions to Math 

A theatrical performance by the students added vibrancy to the assembly. Through captivating dialogues and expressive acting, the young performers showcased India’s invaluable contributions to mathematics, including the invention of zero and advancements in algebra and geometry. The skit served as a reminder of India’s rich mathematical heritage and motivated students to explore its fascinating history. 

Following the assembly, a series of engaging card games and activities were conducted for students of classes III to V. These activities were designed to develop their cognitive abilities and enjoyably enhance logical thinking skills. The students participated enthusiastically, solving puzzles, identifying patterns, and competing in friendly challenges that made learning mathematics an exciting experience. 

The Math Week celebrations aimed to instil confidence and interest in the subject among students. By integrating fun, creativity, and practical learning methods, Apeejay School sought to make mathematics more approachable and enjoyable. The efforts reflected the school’s commitment to holistic education, ensuring students grow academically and develop a genuine love for learning.

The event successfully captured the spirit of Ramanujan’s teachings, inspiring students to think critically and embrace challenges with perseverance.
