The Maharashtra government has deferred the reopening of schools, which was scheduled to resume from August 17. The decision was announced after the meeting of the state Covid-19 Task Force chaired by Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte. The Covid-19 Task Force has advised against resumption of offline classes without fully vaccinating students. Earlier Maharashtra Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad had said, “Offline classes will commence in rural areas for students from classes 5 to 8, while those in cities will be for students from classes 8 to 12 following Covid-19 protocols.”
