Learning to save lives through CPR

Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar hosts an interactive awareness session to equip its community with essential emergency response skills

Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar organised a comprehensive CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) Awareness Session to educate staff members, students, and NCC cadets on the importance of timely medical intervention during emergencies. The initiative aimed to spread awareness about life-saving techniques and empower participants with practical skills that can make a critical difference in emergency situations.

The session was conducted by Dr Anuradha Bansal, Professor, Dr Asha Anand, Head of the Department of Anaesthesia, along with a dedicated team of healthcare professionals from PIMS Hospital. The experts shared valuable insights into the significance of CPR as an emergency response technique that can help sustain a person’s life until professional medical assistance arrives.

The programme combined informative presentations with practical demonstrations, enabling participants to understand the correct sequence of administering CPR. Using training mannequins, the medical team demonstrated chest compressions, rescue breathing techniques, and the proper response to various emergency scenarios. The hands-on training provided attendees with an opportunity to practise the techniques under expert guidance, helping them build confidence in performing CPR effectively.

Students, staff members, and NCC cadets participated enthusiastically throughout the session, asking questions and actively engaging in the practical exercises. The interactive nature of the programme ensured that participants not only understood the theoretical aspects of CPR but also developed the confidence to respond calmly and efficiently in real-life emergencies.

The resource persons also emphasised the importance of recognising the early signs of cardiac arrest, calling for immediate medical assistance, and acting promptly during the crucial first few minutes. They highlighted how awareness and timely intervention can significantly improve survival rates and save precious lives.

The session concluded with an engaging interaction between the medical experts and participants, during which common misconceptions about CPR and emergency response were addressed. The initiative proved to be both informative and inspiring, reinforcing the importance of preparedness and community responsibility.

By organising such awareness programmes, the school continues to promote health, safety, and holistic education. The session successfully equipped its school community with essential life-saving knowledge and practical skills, encouraging every participant to become a confident and responsible first responder during medical emergencies.
