A special assembly was organised at Apeejay School, Tanda Road, Jalandhar, on the occasion of Labour Day. The event focused on recognising the contribution of workers who support everyday functioning within the school and beyond. It offered students a moment to pause and reflect on the value of labour in shaping both institutions and society.

The assembly began with student-led English and Hindi poem recitations. These pieces explored themes of effort, dignity, and respect for all forms of work. The recitations set a reflective tone and helped frame the significance of the day in a way that felt accessible to students across classes.

This was followed by a student speech that spoke about the importance of dignity of labour. The speaker drew attention to how every role, regardless of scale, contributes to the smooth functioning of a community. Teachers later shared that such conversations are essential in helping students move beyond surface-level appreciation and develop a deeper sense of respect.

A meaningful part of the assembly was the gesture of gratitude extended to the school’s supporting staff. Students presented handcrafted cards as a token of appreciation. The act was simple, yet it carried emotional weight, acknowledging the consistent effort that often goes unnoticed in daily routines.

The assembly also served as a reminder of the role schools play in shaping attitudes. By creating space for reflection and expression, the event encouraged students to connect values like empathy and gratitude with real-life actions.

Small, thoughtful gestures can influence how young individuals perceive work and respect those who contribute to it. The Labour Day assembly at Apeejay School did not just mark a date on the calendar; it reinforced values that remain relevant in every stage of life.
