Karnataka to close schools only if positivity rate breaches 5%

The schools in Karnataka will continue with physical classes and will only be shut if the Covid-19 test positivity rate breaches the 5%-mark, said BC Nagesh, minister for primary and secondary education. He stressed that closures will be taluk specific and not a blanket decision across the district or state as was done during the first two waves of the pandemic. “We have told them (Deputy Commissioners) to consider taluks as a unit and not the entire district. This means schools in only those taluks which report a positivity rate of more than 5% will be closed, and not schools in the entire district,” the minister said.
