In a poignant tribute to the indomitable spirit of India’s brave soldiers, the primary department students of Apeejay School, Pitampura embarked on a solemn yet inspiring journey to the National War Memorial recently. The air was charged with patriotism as the young hearts, echoing the words of the fearless Chandra Shekhar Azad, declared, Dushman ki goliyon ka hum samna karenge, Azad hee rahein hain, Azad he rahenge (We will face the enemy’s bullets, we are free, and we will remain free).

The National War Memorial, a hallowed ground that pays homage to the gallant warriors who sacrificed their lives for the nation, became the focal point of this enlightening excursion. Beyond the granite walls and imposing structure, the students explored the area dedicated to the busts of soldiers adorned with the prestigious Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest gallantry award. Each bust stood as a silent testament to the unparalleled courage and valour exhibited on the battlefield.

As the students walked around the main memorial, their eyes were drawn to the walls adorned with the names of approximately 13,000 soldiers etched into the bricks. Each name represented a story of sacrifice, a life laid down in service to the motherland. The young minds were left spellbound, contemplating the magnitude of the sacrifices made for the freedom and security of the nation.

The vibrant energy of the students resonated through the surroundings as they chanted Jai Hind in unison, a spirited expression of their love for the country and respect for its defenders. The excursion became a powerful catalyst for instilling a profound sense of nationalism in their hearts.

Beyond the historical significance of the memorial, the trip served as an invaluable educational experience. The students grasped the essence of living in a free country — freedom earned through the blood, sweat, and tears of the courageous soldiers. The excursion inspired a deeper understanding of the responsibility that comes with this freedom and the need to cultivate mutual respect among fellow citizens.

The visit was more than a journey through history; it was a call to action. The students, with a newfound awareness, pledged to be responsible citizens and guardians of the hard-won liberty. The stories of sacrifice etched on the memorial’s walls became a living lesson, reminding them of the debt owed to those who laid down their lives for the nation.

In conclusion, the excursion to the National War Memorial transcended its role as a field trip. It became a transformative experience, embedding in the hearts and minds of the young students a profound love for their country and a commitment to uphold the ideals for which countless heroes made the ultimate sacrifice. As they returned from this patriotic pilgrimage, the echoes of Dushman ki goliyon ka hum samna karenge, Azad hee rahein hain, Azad he rahenge lingered in the air, symbolising the enduring spirit of a nation united in gratitude and reverence for its defenders.
