The Department of Commerce of Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) organised a two-day online workshop on financial literacy. The workshop was conducted by the National Institute of Securities Market (NISM) SEBI under Konakona Shiksha Project for the final year students of the college.

According to the Reserve Bank of India, financial literacy is defined as “a combination of financial awareness, knowledge, skills, attitude and behaviour necessary to make sound financial decisions and ultimately achieve individual financial well-being”. The financial literacy rate of young Indian adults is 2019 as per a 2019 report by Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).

Anita, security market trainer from NISM, company secretary and chartered financial analyst, and certified management accountant (CMA) Nagesh Kumar were present as resource persons.

The insightful session aimed to inculcate financial literacy among the youth. Dr Monika Mogla, HOD of Commerce, ACFA, formally welcomed the resource persons and discussed the need for and importance of such workshops.

In the workshop, Anita gave detailed information to students about the basic concepts of security markets like capital market, primary market, secondary market, demat account, and mutual funds.

Meanwhile, Nagesh informed students about the various career options in the security market. He emphasised one can achieve great heights by entering the finance sector and pursuing a career as portfolio analyst, investment manager, or security broker.

Dr Neerja Dhingra, principal, ACFA, said that interacting and learning from subject experts help in better concept clarity. Students also become aware of the diverse career options that match their skills and interests.

The principal appreciated the efforts of Dr Manisha Sharma and Talwinder Kaur from the Commerce Department  at ACFA for successfully organising the workshop. She encouraged and motivated them to continue conducting workshops on such important topics in the future.
