Re-creating Van Gogh, the Dutch post-impressionist painter, is tough! But nothing is impossible for Apeejay students. Akanksha Sharma from Apeejay Institute of Technology – School of Architecture and Planning (AIT-SAP) has painted an outstanding 3-D mural of the celebrated artwork: Starry Nights

Selected as this week’s Aspiring Artist, Sharma tells us how the quest for art began while doing the art projects for her siblings. She also goes onto speak about her approach towards art and discloses new forms she wishes to learn. Read edited excerpts:

Since when have you been drawing?
I started making art works around class 6 or 7. These included doing the art projects of my younger siblings. Soon art became my hobby and I began trying different art forms.

So which art form is your favourite and why?
I particularly have no favorite art form as I like to explore each and every art type or form.

And how does your college support you as an artist?
My college recognised my inner artist and also promoted me to go for art competitions. This boosted my self-belief and I began investing more time in art, trying to explore my potential to the full.

Every artist has their own definition of art. What’s yours?
Art, according to me, is just a way of expressing my inner thoughts or feelings. Basically painting the perspective of beauty!

How much time does it take you to complete an artwork? What are the common ideas and themes?
It depends on how detailed or how much time I can spare after my classes. Sometimes it takes a day or a week to finish an artwork. I don’t restrict myself to any particular theme, I try everything.

Any upcoming artworks?
My upcoming artwork is a commission painting of Shri Krishna which I’ll be making on glass.

A new artform you wish to learn?
I’m seeking to learn 3-D floral artwork. I got inspired by Paulina Trzonkowska who posts her artworks on her Instagram page with the name @sillyartstuffpaulina. What an extraordinary artist she is!

Lastly, other hobbies apart from art?
I love to sing! Music is another great passion of mine.
