Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar, recently organised a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) centered around the globally recognised Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Principal Dr. Neerja Dhingra delivered an engaging and thought-provoking lecture, emphasising the significance of these 17 goals established by the United Nations in 2015.

In her lecture, Dr. Dhingra highlighted the essence of SDGs, which aim to address global issues such as poverty, environmental sustainability, economic growth, and social equity, under the guiding principle of “leaving no one behind.” She elaborated on the interdependence of nations and the need for global cooperation to achieve sustainable development. “Development cannot thrive in isolation,” she said, advocating for shared responsibilities and collaborative actions among countries to ensure progress that benefits all sections of society.

Quoting former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s words from the 2008 ASEM Summit, Dr. Dhingra stressed that meaningful action is essential to turning discussions into impactful outcomes. She urged participants to take concrete steps in their personal and professional spheres to promote inclusivity, equality, and environmental conservation. Dr. Dhingra reiterated that sustainable development is not just a goal but a necessity for the future of humanity.

The event also shed light on pressing issues such as responsible consumption, social justice, and environmental protection, with the aim of motivating faculty members to incorporate these values into their teaching and research activities.

The FDP was a collaborative success, with special acknowledgment extended to Dr. Anjana Kumari and Ms. Rajni Kumar for their efforts in organising the event. Additionally, Ms. Paridhi Tuli was commended for her skillful hosting of the program, ensuring its seamless execution.

This initiative by Apeejay College of Fine Arts underscores its commitment to fostering awareness and action towards sustainable development, equipping educators with the knowledge to inspire future generations.
