Recently, Apeejay School, Noida, in collaboration with SPIC MACAY, hosted an enriching cultural session, featuring the internationally acclaimed sarangi maestro Ustad Kamal Sabri. Accompanied by the renowned tabla artist Sabir Hussain, the maestro conducted an engaging lecture-demonstration centred on the sarangi and the nuances of Hindustani classical vocal music.
The programme commenced on an auspicious note with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, symbolising the triumph of knowledge and artistic enlightenment. The distinguished guests were warmly felicitated by the school Principal, Dr Neha Sharma, who formally welcomed them and highlighted the significance of such cultural interactions in nurturing a deeper appreciation for India’s timeless artistic heritage. She emphasised that exposure to classical arts plays a vital role in fostering creativity, sensitivity, and holistic development among students.
The session beautifully reflected the ethos of SPIC MACAY, an organisation dedicated to promoting Indian classical music, art, and culture among young learners. Through this initiative, students were offered an opportunity to connect with the richness and diversity of traditional Indian performing arts in an immersive and meaningful manner.

The highlight of the event was the captivating performance by Ustad Sabri, whose soulful renditions left the audience spellbound. With remarkable artistry and passion, he introduced students to the intricate world of the sarangi, one of the most expressive and emotionally resonant instruments in Indian classical music. He elaborated on its structure, tonal quality, playing techniques, and historical significance, while demonstrating how the instrument closely mirrors the human voice in its emotional depth and subtlety.
The live demonstrations offered students a rare insight into the discipline, precision, and emotional intensity required in classical music. Accompanied by the rhythmic brilliance of Sabir Hussain on the tabla, the performance created an atmosphere of profound musical harmony and artistic excellence.

The session concluded with an engaging interactive segment during which students enthusiastically posed thoughtful questions and requested the maestro to perform specific raags. The programme successfully blended education with performance, leaving students inspired and deeply appreciative of the beauty, depth, and enduring legacy of Indian classical music.
