E-commerce industry to create 7 lakh gig jobs in second half of 2023: Report

According to a report by a Human Resource company, TeamLease, the e-commerce industry is set to witness a surge in gig job opportunities during the second half of the year, thanks to the upcoming festive season sales. E-commerce companies are preparing to meet the high consumer demands expected during the annual shopping frenzy.

As per the report, nearly 7,00,000 gig jobs will be generated, with around 2,00,000 open positions already available for temporary workers in the sector. These job opportunities are predominantly in the last mile delivery and warehouse operations, as companies gear up to fulfill customer orders efficiently.

As the festive season approaches, the e-commerce sector is expected to play a significant role in boosting temporary employment and providing job opportunities for those seeking flexible work arrangements.

The report also stated that this year’s festive hiring is expected to witness a 25 per cent hike in gig jobs as compared to the same period last year. Not only tier-I cities like Bengaluru, Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Chennai, but tier-II and III cities like Vadodara, Pune, Coimbatore are also expected to see a demand for gig workers
