Since class 8 she was amazed by the word Mass Communication, which she heard for the first time in a movie. She then decided this is exactly the field she wanted to master in. Mrinalini Dogra did her graduation in Political Science Honors from Delhi University, just to give herself more time to understand what she really wants to do in life. After exploring the field for 3 years, she decided to master the art of advertising. So, she enrolled herself for a Post-Graduation Diploma in Advertising and Marketing Communication at Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication. Currently, Mrinalini is working as a Manager of Campus and Creator Program at Sociowash. Read excerpts from a telephonic interview:

What made you join AIMC? Tell us about your journey.

I searched for a lot of colleges, but Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication was the institute which attracted me a lot. During the admission procedure, I was told that the institute provides a lot of practical knowledge and prepares students for the industry. As I come from a non-Mass Communication background, this was the golden opportunity for me to understand the field in detail.

I would say Ritika mam always guided me throughout the year. I was one of the students who went to the college to actually see what the campus, studio, equipment and classrooms looked like. And Apeejay was the best choice.

How did Apeejay help you in your professional journey?

Initially, I was getting placed by Apeejay and Pijush sir helped me throughout. But eventually, I realised that I want to explore other opportunities as well. I got my first job as an Account Management Associate at Freeskout, an influencer marketing tech-based startup, where I worked for 6 months. But that journey was very short as I decided to expand my horizons and explore a little more.

Also, I would like to mention that we were constantly told by our teachers that always read about what is happening in the industry. I have followed this routine since forever, even if I got 5 minutes to spare, I used to explore a few websites like Campaign India that showcase what is happening in the marketing domain. So I think this is one thing I took from Apeejay, which is helping me alot.

What do you enjoy the most at your job?

I am leading a team of a few working professionals, and we together work on various brands like Urbanic, Bombay, Philips, SBI and many more. My day starts with the planning of things I need to do in a day, the work I have to assign to my team. So planning is the key. In the agency, we never have time and 24 hours always looks less. So, I plan my day ahead on my way so that I am able to make the most out of the working hours. I also enjoy going to client meetings and discussing internal strategies. All these things take up most of my time. At the end of the day, we spend reflecting on what we did in the 9 hours journey.

Tips you would like to give your juniors.

Stay updated and understand what is happening around. Understand what they are doing and be aware of the current market. Don’t restrict yourself to the job description, do more and you will always be acknowledged for that.
