As mercury soars high in the national capital and its surrounding areas, the Education ministry has released a set of new guidelines for schools. It asked the institutions to relax uniform norms and modify school timings, among other regulations. Further, the schools should ensure that fans are functional and arrange for power backup. Outdoor activities should be restricted and schools must stock ORS and glucose sachets for children.

The temperature in Delhi has risen to 46 degrees Celsius. The national capital also recorded its second hottest April in 72 years with a monthly average maximum temperature of 40.2 degrees Celsius.
