To teach kids about the nutritional value of coconut, Apeejay School, Tanda Road, organised a day of fun-filled activities for its pre-primary wing students on the occasion of World Coconut Day.

For the event, a beach scene was designed where children enjoyed and danced with peers. They relished sweets and snacks made with coconut. The students also drank refreshing coconut water. Besides, they learned new words like beach, shade, and so on.

While being introduced to the health benefits of the fruit, the students were encouraged to include coconut in their diet. Overall, it was an enriching experience for students.

Coconut contains protein, several important minerals and is a rich source of copper and iron. Coconut oil helps prevent the growth of certain bacteria strains while coconut meat contains antioxidants. Low in carbs and high in fibre, coconut also helps control blood sugar levels.

World Coconut Day promotes awareness about the value and advantages of coconut, which is known to be one of the most consumed fruits worldwide. It is a versatile product that is used not only in food and drink but also in cosmetics, building materials, etc. This tropical fruit is most popular in the Asia-Pacific Region.

World Coconut Day was first observed in September 2009 by the Asia Pacific Coconut Community to draw attention to the benefits of the fruit. This year, the theme for World Coconut Day was “Growing Coconut for a Better Future and Life”.
