Class VII students turn bookmarks into lessons on values
Creativity genius hour meets Swami Vivekananda’s teachings at Apeejay School, Noida
Creativity can often make learning more personal and memorable. Keeping this idea in mind, Apeejay School, Noida, recently organised a Bookmark Making Activity for the students of Class VII during the genius hour.
The activity allowed students to explore art while learning about the values and teachings of Swami Vivekananda. It brought together creativity, reading and value-based learning in a simple classroom exercise.
Learning through creative expression
The students designed colourful and unique bookmarks using different craft materials. They worked with enthusiasm and gave each bookmark an individual touch.
Every bookmark carried an inspiring quote by Swami Vivekananda or a message based on his teachings. The ideas reflected values such as honesty, confidence, perseverance and self-belief.
Instead of only reading about these qualities, the students expressed them through their artwork. This helped them think about the meaning behind each value and present it in their own way.
Building artistic and personal skills
The activity also helped students improve their artistic skills. They explored colours, layouts and designs while creating bookmarks that were both useful and meaningful.
At the same time, the exercise drew attention to the importance of reading. A bookmark may be a small object, but it remains closely connected with books and the habit of returning to a story or lesson.
The students participated actively, and their innovative ideas made the session enjoyable. Their work showed how a creative task can become a thoughtful learning experience when it is linked with a larger message.
A meaningful Genius Hour
The Bookmark Making Activity successfully combined art, creativity and moral education. It allowed students to learn beyond regular lessons while developing confidence in their own ideas.
