Characters come alive: Students bring literary icons to the stage

Recently, Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, organised the Characters Come Alive competition for students of Classes V to VIII. Organised by the Hindi and English Departments, the event provided an engaging platform for students to step into the shoes of renowned characters from literature, history and fiction.

The competition transformed the stage into a vibrant world of stories and personalities as students brought their chosen characters to life through creative and expressive performances. Dressed in carefully selected costumes and armed with dialogues and researched information, the participants showcased remarkable preparation and enthusiasm.

From their expressions and emotions to dialogue delivery and body language, every performance reflected the students’ efforts to understand and portray their chosen characters convincingly. Their presentations highlighted not only their acting abilities but also their confidence, creativity and ability to connect with an audience.

The activity offered students an opportunity to explore characters beyond the pages of books. Through research and preparation, they gained a deeper understanding of the personalities, contexts and narratives associated with their selected characters. The experience also encouraged them to use their imagination and communication skills while presenting themselves confidently on stage.

Participants were evaluated on various parameters, including costume, dialogue delivery, expressions, creativity, research, confidence and overall presentation. The judging process encouraged students to focus on both the authenticity of their portrayal and the creativity with which they presented their characters.

The event served as a meaningful blend of learning and performance, demonstrating how experiential activities can make language and literature more engaging for young learners. It encouraged students to read, research, interpret and communicate while developing important skills such as effective expression, imagination and stage presence.
