Budget 2023: Education gets ‘highest ever’ allocation

The outlay for the education sector in the budget this year is looking up. It has increased to rupees 1,12,899.47 crore for the next fiscal year from  rupees 1,04,277.72 crore for fiscal 2023.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also tweeted that this “highest ever allocation” to the education sector would pave the way to transform India into a “knowledge-based economy”.

Further, the school education department has got the higher share from the education kitty at rupees 68,804.85 crore with a big push to the PM Poshan scheme, which has subsumed the mid-day meal plan.

The higher education segment got rupees 44,904.62 crore which will increase the funding to several central institutes where self-sufficiency is being advocated.

During the budget speech, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a national digital library for children and adolescents will be set up. She also mentioned that three centres of excellence will be created to boost Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India. These centres will be established in top Indian institutions to ensure that we make AI in India and make AI work for India.
