Board Battles and Brilliance: Haryana school hosts chess titans in Stya Paul Memorial Tournament

In a celebration of intellectual prowess and strategic thinking, Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri in Haryana played host to the prestigious Dr Stya Paul Memorial Inter-School Chess Tournament. The primary objective of the event was to provide a stimulating platform for students, spanning classes VI to X, to enhance their logical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills through the captivating game of chess.

The anticipation and excitement were palpable as young minds from eight different schools converged, ready to engage in a battle of wits on the checkered battlefield. The event commenced with a touching floral tribute to Dr Stya Paul by the school’s Principal, Mr Rudrendra Basak, alongside dedicated teachers and enthusiastic students, setting the tone for the intense competition that lay ahead.

A total of 32 participants, each representing their respective schools, adhered to the rules set forth by the Chief Arbiters of the school – Kartik Yadav from class IX and Heman from class XI. The matches were structured as knockout rounds, adding an extra layer of intensity to each encounter. With a time limit of 15 minutes per move, the players showcased their strategic brilliance, with results hinging on the ticking timer or the decisive checkmate.

The participants exhibited a remarkable display of concentration and skill, earning admiration from onlookers. As the first day unfolded, tension mounted, and the competition reached its zenith, culminating in the announcement of the contestants who secured coveted spots in the semi-finals.

The final day witnessed a fierce battle among the top contenders, each vying for the championship title. Mr Basak, took the honour of awarding the accolades to the standout performers. Expressing gratitude from the depths of his heart, he commended every participant for their commitment to the game, emphasising the unique qualities each chess player brings to the board.

The ultimate winners emerged from the crucible of competition, showcasing not only their mastery of the game but also their resilience and strategic acumen. The triumphant players were: First, Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri – Vivek, class IX, Second, Aryan School, Charkhi Dadri – Mayank, class IX and Third, Adarsh School, Charkhi Dadri – Mukul, class IX.

Mr Basak acknowledged the significance of such inter school competitions in providing recognition and awards for outstanding performances. He emphasised that these events serve as a confidence boost, validating the students’ efforts and instilling a sense of accomplishment.

In his closing remarks, he assured the participants and the audience that the school is committed to organising more such enriching activities in the future, fostering a culture of excellence and camaraderie among the students.–
