Beyond Borders, Under Shared Skies: Apeejay students foster global connections

With a vision to nurture globally aware and socially responsible learners, Apeejay School, Model Town, Jalandhar, recently organised an enriching international virtual interaction under the British Council’s Recognition of International Dimension in Schools (RIDS) initiative. As part of the Global Voices Forum, students of Class VIII participated in a thought-provoking Zoom session with students from ACT Academy, Sri Lanka, fostering cross-cultural learning and meaningful global engagement.

The international exchange centred around the compelling theme, “Borders vs Shared Skies,” encouraging students to reflect on the idea that while geographical boundaries may separate nations, humanity shares a common responsibility towards the environment and the future of the planet. The virtual forum created an inspiring platform where young learners from both countries came together to exchange ideas, appreciate diverse perspectives, and strengthen their understanding of global citizenship.

One of the highlights of the interaction was the series of insightful and creative PowerPoint presentations delivered by students from both schools. Through well-researched content, engaging visuals, and confident presentations, participants explored themes of global unity, environmental sustainability, cultural diversity, and the importance of collective action in addressing shared global challenges.

The presentations reflected not only the students’ academic understanding but also their creativity, critical thinking, and awareness of contemporary global issues. They emphasised that despite belonging to different nations and cultures, people across the world share common aspirations for peace, environmental conservation, and sustainable development.

Beyond academic learning, the session served as a valuable opportunity for students to interact with peers from another country, broadening their horizons through meaningful conversations and cultural exchange. The interactive discussions enabled participants to appreciate different viewpoints while discovering shared values and aspirations.
