Deepak Sharma is the CEO of Globiz Technology Inc. and an alumnus of Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC).  He is part of the batch of 2009 having pursued his Masters in Computers Application. In a quick telephonic conversation, the young CEO says to be in this position one has to work from the bottom up, that gives you a panoramic understanding of the industry. Read edited excerpts:

A CEO is a very big position. What are its roles, expectations and pressures?

Reaching up that that level requires starting from the ground. Work at the grassroot level. You should know about all the domain departments and be clear about the basis. An entrepreneur must first work at a job to understand the dynamics and then plan for his aspirations. Then as you move through this process, one eventually takes charge of the top responsibility. As a CEO, you have to make tough decisions daily to increase  productivity, that’s the hard part.

So what advice would you give to our students?

Have core competencies and increase your skills with the guidance of your teachers. Then plan big for yourself but mind that your base should be firm.

Tell us about the AIMETC days?

That was the prime of my youth. One gets a good exposure at AIMETC. So many brilliant teachers. I am happy to say that I am the General Secretary of the alumni association in AIMETC, Jalandhar. I am still connected and go to college to attend the meetings and the ‘Pinnacle’ fest. Once you are attached to an Apeejay institute, it’s a forever bonding. That is the grace of AIMETC!

The teachers from our batch are still there and are giving life direction to us even now. Learning is a lifelong process, truly.

One innovation you would like in your field?

Every day is an innovative day. Taking tough decisions is a must, they  will be in favour of some and not for some, but you have to take those tough calls to be innovative at work.

One challenge in your line of work?

Challenges are always there. AIMETC has shaped us in a way that we not only accept the challenge but also smoothly sail our boat to the next destination by our experience and expertise.
