Noor Arora, a class 8 student at Apeejay School, Pitampura, is an artist with a gifted vision. Her artworks have the stamp of the genius in her imagination. Calligraphy and water paintings are her forte, and she loves to practice art as much as possible. In the Apeejay Aspiring Artists interview, the young painter from Pitampura speaks about her journey and mentions how her school helps her at every step. Read edited excerpts:

Since when have you been drawing?

I have started very young, from Nursery. I would scribble on sheets, then I gradually started drawing shapes. My mother encouraged me a lot – she also enrolled me in many art classes. I practiced many art forms there, painting with watercolors and acrylics. I personally love watercolors the most.

Every artist has their definition of art. What is your definition of art?

For me, art is painting from your heart, not copying from somewhere. I don’t like to copy, though sometimes I have to take references. My mother helps me a lot with new ideas. She suggests them and I combine them with my vision and then paint the picture. I love using my imagination.

What is your favourite artform?

Calligraphy! I love how we can doodle within it. It is a coming together of many designs as an art.

How does your school help you to become such a good artist?

I would like to thank Nidhi Puri ma’am , my art teacher at school. She is the best mentor in school for me. She encouraged and motivated me so much. She helped me in every stage of art and it is because of her support that I was able to win the medals and accolades.

Tell us about the recent art competition you won?

It was an Indo-Japan Amity Confluence in which I won in the extraordinary performance category. I drew the outline map of India and Japan and drew monuments within it as well as depicted both countries as shaking hands. It was on canvas.

Next artworks?

I am trying to focus on watercolour painting. I am trying to make a painting on flowers next.
