To promote practical learning, Apeejay Institute of Technology-School of Architecture and Planning (AIT-SAP) organised a workshop visit for budding architects to Numobel, a modular wood factory in Greater Noida, run by Tushar Agrawal, managing director.

Students from the fifth-year and third-year batches were taken on a tour around the factory to learn about the various processes involved in the manufacture of wooden products. The visit was aligned with the subjects ‘Product Design’ and ‘Interior Design’, which are part of the curriculum for fifth and third-year students respectively. They got to experience some of the state-of-the-art technology used in modular furniture.

The visit was quite fruitful. The students were accompanied by some faculty members of AIT-SAP including the director of the institute Ar Vivek Sabherwal, associate professor Ar Vaani Dua, assistant professor Ar Aastha Kalia, and assistant professor Ar Nilofar Saifi.

“The students got to know about the various materials, techniques, and tools used to make furniture as well as finishing work,” one of the professors said. “The visit was made possible by AIT-SAP alumnus Madhur Sharma, who works as a general manager (Research and Development) at Numobel. He was the one who introduced the students to the procedure.”

The students were further asked to prepare reports based on their “observations and understanding of the processes” at the workshop.
