Visionaries are rare! They talk about solutions, not problems. They possess ideas that are unimaginable. And one such visionary was late Prof. Niteen Patil, former Dean at School of Design and Visual Arts at Apeejay Stya University. He possessed a visionary force in the realm of design and education, with a career spanning decades characterised by innovation, mentorship, and transformative leadership. As an esteemed figure in the design landscape, Patil had etched an indelible mark through a rich tapestry of experiences, amalgamating academic prowess with practical expertise.

He not only always aspired to nurture the creative potential of countless students but also spearheaded pioneering initiatives in design research and innovation. Therefore, in the School of Design and Visual Arts, he was the brainchild of a new event ‘KALPAYATU’.

Launched in 2023, it is a monthly 1.5 hours event, hosting captivating Talk-Shows with specially invited professional practicing artists from the School of Design and Visual Arts, occurring regularly from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

This event aims to create a conducive environment for insightful discussions, featuring a Talk Series, critical and analytical discussions, and slide-show projections, showcasing the work of invited professional artists and designers. The initiative aims to host monthly Talk Shows, featuring faculty members from the Design and Visual Arts disciplines, in a sequential manner.

The School of Design and Visual Arts (SDVA) is a renowned institution in the Design and Visual Arts field, known for its exceptional outcomes. They offer robust educational opportunities in both practical and theoretical domains. This event will further foster a familial atmosphere for faculty, students, and scholars to engage in candid interactions. ‘KALPAYATU’ is a term derived from Sanskrit, where “Kalpa” means imagination or creativity, and “Yatu” means endeavour. In this context, ‘KALPAYATU’ is an event or initiative that involves fostering creativity, imagination, and insightful discussions, often within the realms of arts and design. The event, named after the Sanskrit word meaning ‘Envisage,’ aims to nurture creative and intellectual pursuits beyond traditional academic spheres.

The platform aims to foster discussions, showcase artistic contributions, create a conducive environment, and encourage interdisciplinary discussions in the Design and Visual Arts field. It encourages open interactions and a sense of belonging among faculty, students, and scholarly guests. Monthly Talk Shows showcase faculty perspectives and provide a dedicated space for creative expression and intellectual exploration.
