The NSS (National Service Scheme) Wing and Department of Social Sciences at Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) in Jalandhar came together to honour the Martyrdom Day of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh through a series of educational activities. The aim was to enlighten students about the significant aspects of his life and contributions to India’s freedom struggle.

Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of ACFA, underscored the relevance of acquainting today’s young generation with the exemplary sacrifices made by freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh. She emphasised the necessity of instilling in students a deep appreciation for the struggles and hardships endured by these brave patriots, who laid down their lives to secure the freedoms enjoyed by the nation today. Dr. Dhingra stressed the importance of fostering a sense of responsibility towards the nation among the youth, urging them to honor the legacy of Bhagat Singh and other martyrs by actively contributing to the progress and well-being of the country.

To commemorate the occasion, students from various departments of the college actively participated in diverse activities designed to shed light on the life and ideals of Bhagat Singh. A highlight of the event was the creation of insightful posters by students, depicting key milestones and moments from Bhagat Singh’s life. These posters served as visual representations of his struggles, achievements, and unwavering commitment to the cause of India’s independence. Through their creative efforts, students sought to honor the memory of the great revolutionary and inspire their peers to learn from his legacy.

In addition to the poster-making activity, students engaged in presentations and poetry readings focused on Bhagat Singh’s life and contributions. Sandeep and Deeksha, students from the college, delivered informative presentations, highlighting significant events and ideological principles that shaped Bhagat Singh’s revolutionary journey. Their presentations provided valuable insights into Bhagat Singh’s fearless spirit, his dedication to the nation, and his unwavering commitment to the ideals of freedom and justice.

Further enriching the commemorative event was a poignant poetry recitation by student Gursimran, who eloquently expressed admiration for Bhagat Singh’s courage and sacrifice. Through heartfelt verses, Gursimran paid tribute to the indomitable spirit of the revolutionary icon, underscoring the enduring relevance of his principles and ideals in contemporary times.

Lastly, Dr. Dhingra commended the efforts of the Dean of NSS Wing and the faculty of the Department of Social Sciences for organising the event and facilitating meaningful engagement among students. She lauded their commitment to fostering a sense of national pride and historical consciousness among the student community. Dr. Dhingra expressed her hope that such initiatives would continue to inspire students to emulate the ideals of Bhagat Singh and strive for a better, more just society.
