Kunwarpal Singh, a first-semester student of B.A. Journalism & Mass Communication at Apeejay College of Fine Arts, Jalandhar, has made an outstanding achievement by securing a highly sought-after Public Policy Internship with the District Bureau of Employment and Enterprises, an initiative established by the Government of Punjab. Kunwarpal’s accomplishment is not just a personal victory but a testament to the caliber of students at Apeejay College.

Kunwarpal’s journey toward this achievement began during Apeejay College of Fine Art’s Diwali fair when he was tasked by the Journalism Department to shoot a video. With an eye for detail and a knack for storytelling, he recorded the event and uploaded the clips on Instagram. His creative approach caught the attention of Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, IAS, Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar. Impressed by Kunwarpal’s self-learned skills and dedication, Dr. Aggarwal reached out to him through Instagram and initiated a conversation about his work and aspirations. This interaction led to a meeting where Dr. Aggarwal shared details about an internship program he was launching. Recognising Kunwarpal’s potential, he offered him the internship even before the program officially began.

This internship is a golden opportunity for young professionals aspiring to make an impact in the realm of public policy and development. During this program, Kunwarpal will have the privilege of working alongside distinguished figures such as Hon’ble Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar, Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal, IAS, and District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) Hakam Singh. His contributions will support various developmental initiatives aimed at improving the infrastructure and overall well-being of Jalandhar city.

Since joining the program, Kunwarpal has been actively contributing to both the Deputy Commissioner’s office and the District Public Relations office. His responsibilities include covering events, creating engaging content for social media, and editing important speeches aimed at inspiring youth. “Working with DC Sir has been an enriching experience. I’m gaining insights into how things operate within the city and understanding various aspects of public policy work,” shares Kunwarpal. His proactive involvement also includes forming groups with fellow interns, managing social media activities, and participating in weekly meetings where he presents suggestions and takes on new assignments.

“Being the only one from Apeejay College in this role makes me feel proud,” he says, reflecting on the unique opportunity. The internship, which is set to continue until March 31 with a potential extension for six months, is providing Kunwarpal with invaluable hands-on experience in videography, photography, report writing, and social media management. These skills are equipping him to contribute effectively to the city’s development initiatives under the mentorship of Dr. Aggarwal and District Public Relations Officer Hakam Singh.

In recognition of this remarkable achievement, Dr. Neerja Dhingra, Principal of Apeejay College of Fine Arts, expressed her heartfelt congratulations to Kunwarpal. She commended his dedication and encouraged him to embrace this opportunity with enthusiasm, highlighting how such internships are pivotal in shaping the careers of young professionals. Dr. Dhingra also acknowledged the efforts of Mr. Kewal Krishan Nailwal, Head of the Internship Cell, and Mr. Mohit Rubel from the Journalism and Mass Communication Department, whose continuous support and guidance have played a crucial role in helping students like Kunwarpal reach their full potential.

Kunwarpal’s story underscores the importance of practical exposure and real-world experiences in fostering growth and unlocking potential. With his internship, he is not only gaining technical expertise but also contributing meaningfully to the community, showcasing the transformative power of journalism, public policy, and dedication.
