As India marked its 76 years of freedom on August 15, 2023, Apeejay schools came alive with a vibrant display of patriotism, unity, and cultural richness. In Charkhi Dadri and Nerul, students and educators of Apeejay Schools orchestrated mesmerising Independence Day celebrations, reflecting India’s diverse heritage and the indomitable spirit of freedom. These commemorations reaffirmed the importance of unity and the country’s ongoing journey towards progress and development.

The campus of Apeejay School, Charkhi Dadri resonated with fervent patriotism with an array of engaging activities. The morning began with the majestic unfurling of the National Flag and a soul-stirring rendition of the National Anthem. Students presented a spirited cultural programme that included patriotic songs, eloquent speeches, and captivating dance performances. The event showcased the students’ heartfelt connection to their nation’s history and their commitment to a harmonious future.

Bhawik from class IX ignited the audience’s thoughts with an insightful “Thought for the Day.” The young talents of classes IV to VIII delivered a scintillating group dance portraying the awareness of national issues, while student Rajashree Basak’s soulful patriotic song left the audience spellbound. The celebration was further enriched by the melodious renditions of Kapil from class IX and an informative speech by Anshika, also from class IX. Poignant patriotic poems by Hemang and Jayant of class V resonated with the crowd’s emotions.

Highlighting the event, Aditya Pratap and Ananya of class IX skilfully anchored the programme, while Livanshi and Divya curated an informative quiz to stimulate the audience’s curiosity. The celebration also featured an insightful sharing of lesser-known facts about the iconic leader Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose by Yamini of class IX. The atmosphere was electric as students from classes IV to VIII adorned themselves in tricolour and raised the Tiranga high, echoing the chants of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram.”

The educators in the school also participated on the big day with great enthusiasm. Primary teacher, Mr Dharmendra Kumar’s resonating patriotic song and Mr Ashok Kumar’s (PGT Physical Education) evocative poem evoked the valour of unsung heroes from the freedom struggle. Nursery teacher, Mrs Babita Sharma’s encouraging speech underlined the importance of global peace, unity, and brotherhood. The celebration concluded with the distribution of sweets, leaving the students in jubilant spirits.

At Apeejay School Nerul, the 77th Independence Day celebration was a magnificent display of unity and cultural diversity. The day commenced with the hoisting of the Indian flag by the school’s Principal, Mr P Subhash. After this, the Prefectorial Board of the school offered a ceremonial salute to the nation amidst the performance of the National Anthem. Besides, the vice-principal of the school, Mrs Preety Gupta, school coordinators, teachers, students and parents were also present on the occasion.

The principal’s thought-provoking speech invoked the words of Robert Frost, resonating the journey of the nation with miles yet to traverse. This metaphor echoed the continued pursuit of progress and development, underscoring the responsibilities of the present and future generations.

Selected students from secondary classes delivered stirring speeches in English, Hindi, Sanskrit, and Marathi, paying homage to freedom fighters and reiterating the significance of democratic values and justice. The cultural programme featured a rich tapestry of Indian heritage, with melodious patriotic songs by younger students and a mesmerising dance fusion by secondary students, blending Mohiniattam, Bhangra, and Contemporary styles. The students’ passion and dedication were evident in their performances, leaving parents and attendees both impressed and proud.

Finally, the celebration reached its crescendo with a heartfelt vote of thanks and a rendition of the national song, encapsulating the collective sentiment of reverence and pride.

These events exemplified the schools’ dedication to nurturing a sense of responsibility, commitment, and love for the country’s rich cultural heritage.

As Mahatma Gandhi once said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” These celebrations embodied this sentiment, motivating young minds to actively contribute to India’s progress and prosperity. The passion and enthusiasm displayed by the students, educators, and parents alike will undoubtedly fuel the nation’s journey towards a brighter, harmonious future.
