Globalisation is shaping the present economy. As a result, it’s creating new customer demands thereby compelling organisations to raise their performance as well as challenging employees to manage international projects and events effectively.

In this regard, Apeejay School of Management recently organised a virtual seminar on the topic ‘How to manage international projects and events’.

The speakers for the day were Professor Joe Houghton, Assistant Professor, UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School, Dublin, Ireland and Dr. Nishu Ayedee, Marketing Head, Kingdom of Dreams, Gurugram.

The seminar began with Anuj Kumar,  Assistant Professor, Apeejay School of Management, Dwarka, also the organiser of the event, introducing the guest speakers to the attendees as well as briefed them about the theme.

Speaking to the participants, Professor Joe Houghton shared his views on risk and uncertainties in managing international projects. He discussed the nuances of project management in an international context. He also emphasised,  “Culture plays an important role in managing international projects.”

Dr. Nishu Ayedee discussed the complexity of handling international and national events. “You may face challenges in executing such events but it’s important to understand how to practice project management in extremely challenging situations with the given resources and information. She further underscored the role played by culture in management of events while  encouraging the participants to learn more about culture in order to succeed as professional managers and business leaders.

The seminar was attended by the first and second year PGDM students of ASM. Kajal Kumari, a first-year student with ASM said, “It was a great learning experience. The seminar started with sharing theoretical knowledge on the theme followed by showcasing the real-world examples. We gained extensive knowledge of how to manage the project challenges and opportunities effectively as well as efficiently. One of the key takeaways is to always have a Plan B when planning a big project.”

Another first year student, Leena Raheja said, “It was a good experience to attend a session by guest speakers, who have experience in various fields like entrepreneurship, photography, research, and education. An important thing that I learnt was one should know where to use his/her knowledge and how to keep upskilling and stay updated about the real-world happenings.”

The seminar ended with a vote of thanks by Anuj Kumar.
