Apeejay school attends Khelo India University Games’ opening ceremony

Apeejay students witnessed exciting kabaddi matches between participants from different universities

Apeejay School, Noida, was recently invited to the grand opening ceremony of the Khelo India University Games, held at Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, Greater Noida. Students and teachers attended the magnificent event in large numbers.

Shri Brijesh Singh, Minister of State, Public Works Department, and Minister Incharge, Gautam Buddh Nagar, was the chief guest at the event. Among the other dignitaries was Dr Mahesh Sharma, Member of Parliament, Gautam Buddh Nagar.

The show began with exquisite cultural performances by students from different schools across the country. This was followed by nail-biting live kabaddi matches. Apeejay students witnessed stiff competition in a women’s kabaddi game between the students of Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla, and Hemchand Yadav Vishwavidyalaya, Chhattisgarh. A men’s kabaddi match between Maharshi Dayanand University, Rohtak, and VELS University, Chennai, also left the audience awestruck.

The stadium was packed with nearly 900 students from various schools in Noida and Greater Noida. Students enjoyed the games and were inspired to take an active interest in sports.

Apeejay School, Noida, known for its quality education, promotes children’s holistic development through adequate exposure to various extracurricular activities including sports, which help in honing skills and building personality. Many students from the school have not only participated in state-level and national-level sports competitions but also won medals.

Khelo India University Games is the largest sports competition held at the university level in India. It is a part of the Government of India’s Khelo India initiative that is focused towards promoting sports and identifying young athletes across the country. It was inaugurated on February 22, 2020, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the JNL Indoor Stadium in Cuttack, Odisha. This 10-day multi-sport is being held in Lucknow, Varanasi, Greater Noida, and Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, starting with kabaddi.
