The modern world is all about coding. Coding is a field that is generating the most highest paying jobs and taking over the entire corporate sector. Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC) in Jalandhar has always encouraged their students in coding and have provided them with the best of knowledge for the same. The college recently organised a workshop titled ‘Hands on practice with open CV using python’.

This workshop was a significant event that showcased the institute’s dedication to providing high-quality education and promoting innovation in the field of computer science and engineering.

Speaking about the event Dr. Rajesh Bagga, Director of AIMETC, mentioned, “The primary focus of this workshop was to equip participants with valuable skills in computer vision and image processing using OpenCV, an open-source library widely recognized for its power and versatility in image processing and computer vision tasks.”

He added, “OpenCV is a critical tool for developers and researchers working with images and videos, enabling applications in various fields, such as object detection, facial recognition, and more”.

The workshop was thoughtfully designed to cater to both beginners and intermediate-level participants, ensuring that it could benefit a wide range of students and professionals interested in the field of computer vision and image processing.

The success of the workshop was attributed to the expertise of the resource persons: Mr. Gaurav Sharma, Ms. Anjali Goyal and Mr. Gurminder Singh from O7 Services. These individuals are the esteemed experts in the field of computer vision, with extensive experience working with OpenCV and Python. Their knowledge and practical insights enriched the learning experience for the participants, thereby making it highly engaging and informative.

This workshop provided an excellent opportunity for students to learn the fundamentals of OpenCV and understand its practical applications. The resource persons not only discussed the theoretical aspects but also demonstrated a real-world project: A background remover. This demonstration highlighted how OpenCV could be used to separate subjects from their backgrounds, a crucial task in image editing and video production. This real-world application helped students see the relevance and utility of the skills they were learning.

At the end of the workshop, Dr. Rajesh Bagga encouraged students to actively engage in similar workshops. His support and anticipation of witnessing the innovative endeavors of the students in the future underscore AIMETC’s commitment to fostering learning and creativity. He thanked the resource persons for their valuable insights and also applauded the faculty coordinators, Ms. Rajveer Kaur and Mr. Amarpreet Singh, for organising and facilitating the workshop.
