Rahul Bhasin is an Area Sales Manager with Dj Sons Pvt Ltd. His daughter Akshita Bhasin is a student of B Com Honours, final year, at the Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA), Jalandhar. In an interview, he shares the key differences between online and physical classes, his daughter’s performance at ACFA and future aims and aspirations. Edited Excerpts:
Why did you choose the Apeejay College of Fine Arts (ACFA) over other universities for your child’s admission?
Apeejay is a very renowned institution. Here in Jalandhar, it is the number one institution. Many of my colleagues and family members’ children study or have studied at Apeejay institutions. All of them are doing very well in lives. My uncle’s daughter Hena Bhasin, who studied at Apeejay Mahavir Marg, went on to do a course in Computer Science and is currently employed with Infosys.
Please tell us about your child and take us through her progress at ACFA?
Akshita has been selected as the Vice-Head girl in her college. She is very good in studies. Her favourite subject is Maths. She was the only child in her batch at school to score 100/100 in the class 10 Maths Board examination.
She is doing well in B Com Honours. She is preparing for CAT simultaneously. She has a very good rapport with everyone at college. Among her hobbies, well, she likes to travel, dance and listen to music. She is good in sports as well. She likes to play badminton. As a person, she is an introvert but at the same time very confident in what she does or sets her mind upon.
Do you think the teachers are engaging well with the students?
Yes, there are no issues with the teachers. They are all teaching well. Akshita is the favourite of her teachers. She is well-connected with all of them. Garima ma’am, the Accounts teacher is her favourite. Akshita tells me that she teaches very well.
All the teachers at ACFA are very experienced. They are all seasoned teachers and therefore, they are teaching well without a doubt.
What is the best thing about ACFA, Jalandhar?
The college atmosphere, location, it is all very good. The college is neat and clean. The teachers are helpful and the staff is very friendly.
We visited the college during some annual functions and for Akshita’s investiture ceremony. It was a great experience for us. All the students are really disciplined and the teachers are equally involved with their students.
What is your perception of the online classes during the pandemic?
During the pandemic, online classes were the only way out for all academic institutions. But there is a lot of difference between online and physical classes. No doubt the teachers put in their best possible efforts in online classes as well. All credit to them. But some of the students were laidback during the classes. From their homes some of the students take the lectures in a casual manner.
Now that the college has opened, students are also happier. They are following a healthy and busy routine. Taking the classes physically, interacting face to face with the teachers, staying alert in the lectures, that is so much more exciting.
What are Akshita’s future plans?
She is preparing for the Common Admission Test (CAT). If she clears it, then she would go for an MBA from a good institute. Then her career would be fine. She is likely to get selected in a multi-national corporation at a good post.
