Dr. Sunil Kumar Roy, Dean at School of Management Sciences, Apeejay Stya University was recently invited by the Department of Management Studies, Panipat Institute of Technology and Management (PIET) to conduct a one-day workshop on ‘Outcome based Education’.

Around 40 participants attended the workshop from the Department of Management Studies.

In his talk, Dr. Roy elaborated on the importance of outcome-based education (OBE) and how it plays a key role in measuring educational effectiveness based on results rather than on inputs such as time students spend in class. He further emphasised how OBE stands vital in attaining accreditation from top agencies and as mentioned in the guidelines of New Education Policy 2020 . The outcome based education constitutes the criteria by which curriculum is developed or redesigned, instructional materials are selected, teaching methods are adopted, and evaluation is conducted.

Faculty members were trained through hands-on exercises.  The objective of this faculty training workshop was to expose the participating members to the current comprehensive needs of the education sector.

Dr. Roy added, “Students require mentors for their overall development and this is a proven tool. All universities follow mentor-mentee setup for holistic development of their students. Institutions also require mentorship. I executed a mentor’s role in this one-day workshop and extended hand holding to all attendees to become OBE executors. Encouraging feedback and appreciation of top management was added to my kitty.”

The Department of Management at PIET has 150 MBA and 450 BBA students.
