She is originally from Patna Bihar but her schooling took her from the eastern part of the country to western – Rajasthan from where she did her under-graduation. But as fate would have it, it brought her to Delhi and this is where she decided to pursue a post-graduation – a diploma in Advertising and Marketing Communication from Apeejay Institute of Mass Communication (AIMC). Meet Teertha, who began her professional journey with WPP in Gurugram, Haryana two months back.

In an impromptu conversation, this alumna shared her experience of studying at this prestigious institute.

Tell us about yourself.

My name is Teertha and have made it a point to not be associated with a surname. I am a recent graduate from AIMC, where I pursued a Diploma in Advertising and Marketing Communication. I have always been interested in working in this sector and therefore opted for this programme.

Where do you work and what does a typical day look like for you?

I am at present working with WPP; I got this job through campus placement. I started as a copywriting intern two months back. My typical day starts at 11 am and there are times when I am in the office till late – post 10 pm. Once I am in the office, my work starts with checking emails and managing tasks. Once this is done, it is time to learn the ropes from the seniors.

How did your institute prepare you for your career?

The institute provided both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in advertising. The curriculum included guest lectures and mock interviews which were pivotal in understanding the demands of the advertising industry. This helped when it was time to get placed.

What skills from your course are you finding most useful in your current job?

The year-long project where I developed a hypothetical brand and created various advertising campaigns was particularly beneficial. It helped me develop skills in campaign management and creative writing, which are crucial in my role as a copywriter.

Elaborate on the guidance provided by the faculty during your course.

The faculty was instrumental in my development, providing continuous feedback and organising group meetings to discuss our projects. They also arranged for industry professionals to visit and share practical insights, which greatly enhanced my learning experience.

The faculty was always there to guide and mentor us on the work project that I worked on. Their feedback at each stage proved to be extremely advantageous as it helped me understand the nuances of advertising. The culture at AIMC encourages learning from various sources to enhance creativity and vocabulary.

What were some of the most enjoyable parts of your college life?

The social activities, especially the annual fest ‘Synergy’, were the most enjoyable. I participated in various games and activities, and even took part in the Miss Synergy contest, making lasting memories. Staying connected with college friends who are now colleagues provides a supportive network in the professional setting.

Any challenges?

The only challenge is the daily commute impacting my work-life balance. I live in Uttam Nagar and travelling for two hours takes a toll. But otherwise, I am loving every aspect of my work. I hope to move up the ladder and one day reach a stage where I can be in a leadership position and pass on what I have learnt from my seniors to new joiners.
