She is a class XI student at Apeejay International School in Greater Noida, who loves exploring and discovering new things. She enjoys reading and listening to music and plans to study literature in college, despite feeling a bit skeptical about this decision. She constantly keeps sending her contributions to Apeejay Newsroom, as she believes through writing, she can convey her thoughts better and in a more refined manner. Meet Saumya Maurya.

In a candid conversation, she helped us run through her writing journey among other things.

Tell us about yourself.

I am a simple person who loves to explore almost everything I may come across. My hobbies include reading and listening to music. I’m planning to pursue literature in college. I developed an interest in literature during the lockdown, although I am still unsure about my career prospects.

What are some of your favourite books?

I am an avid reader but I mostly enjoy reading fiction, particularly fantasy and thrillers.

What came to mind when you first encountered this topic?

As soon as I saw the topic– Summer & Spring –The Greatest Seasons of All Times,  I realised that my favourite season is something I could write about because I know which season I enjoy the most. For example, when I think about spring, I envision the vibrant flowers blooming, the crisp air, and the cozy feeling of wrapping up in a warm scarf. This season brings back fond memories and offers a wealth of inspiration for writing. Whether it’s the beauty of nature, the change in atmosphere, or the activities associated with autumn, there’s so much to explore and describe. This made it an ideal topic for me to write about with passion and detail.

So what’s your process of researching and writing?

I knew what I liked about my favourite season, but I also developed a new place to explain what I wanted to convey. I instantly wrote what was in my head. I wrote the article entirely by myself, though I did use Google to find synonyms for words I thought were too simple.

What are your aspirations?

Although I love reading and writing and wish to sometimes get into the field of literature, I have not decided as such whether or not I have to become a writer.

Any piece of article you once wrote and are still proud of?

It was my first article, which I sent to Apeejay Newsroom. Other than that, I hadn’t written any article earlier. So yes, that was my very first one and I am proud to have published it online on such a great platform.

Any tips you would want to give to aspiring writers?

When you’re writing, you should focus on capturing the thoughts going through your mind rather than constantly editing and thinking, For example: ‘This sentence isn’t right, I should write it better’. First, compile all your thoughts, and then later, refine them into more suitable sentences.
