Scholar-Journalist of the Week: Strive to win, whatever it takes

A class 10 student at Apeejay School, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar, Rohan Verma was inspired to pen down his thoughts right after his Pre-Board examinations. An academically strong student, he feels that working hard is the only way to succeed. The Hindi idiom, “करत अभ्यास के जङमति होत सुजा, रसरी आवत जात, सिल पर करत निशान” is his driving force. The saying can be translated as practice makes the person perfect. In an interview, Rohan talks about his writing inspiration and success mantras. Read on:

What inspired you to write the article – Strive to win, whatever it takes?

My mother. She always encourages and motivates me to do better.   

What kind of books do you like to read?

I like to read texts and stories that involve science fiction or fantasy. I am also fond of narratives that come with a moral value. I feel, at present, people are beginning to forget good values such as honesty, forgiveness etc. I read these books so I can learn and inculcate the same in my daily life.

Which is an upcoming book on your reading list?

I haven’t got a chance to read the stories of Panchatantra. I would definitely want to do that once I have more time at hand.

How do you manage to write regularly along with studies?

I pen down my thoughts as and how they come. It has become a routine for me now. I keep getting new ideas, so I scribble them when I get free from my classes at school.

Your tips for student writers?

Read the newspaper daily to know about the trending topics, so you can write better and relevant content. Practice your skills daily.
