At Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar, holistic education goes far beyond academics. The school places equal emphasis on emotional intelligence, moral growth, and character building. Under the Learning At Keyway initiative, which focuses on nurturing essential life skills through experiential learning, students of Class VI-A participated in a thoughtful and interactive session titled The Magic of Empathy. The engaging session was conducted by Ms Ria Sharma, School Counsellor and PGT Psychology, who guided young learners to discover how empathy forms the foundation of meaningful human connections.

The session began with an insightful discussion on what empathy truly means: The ability to step into another’s shoes, understand their emotions, and respond with care. Through relatable examples and thought-provoking questions, Ms Sharma encouraged students to reflect on everyday situations where empathy could make a difference,  whether helping a friend, supporting a classmate, or being kind to a family member.

Students actively participated, sharing personal experiences and heartfelt reflections on times they chose compassion over judgement. Their responses highlighted a growing awareness that empathy isn’t just about feeling for others; it’s about acting with kindness and understanding.

Ms Sharma explained that empathy is a vital social skill, especially during adolescence, as it strengthens peer relationships, improves communication, and fosters a supportive school environment. She also introduced simple strategies to practise empathy daily, listening attentively, being patient, and appreciating different perspectives.

The interactive session left students inspired to incorporate empathy into their everyday lives. It beautifully reinforced that when we learn to care, we learn to live harmoniously. As the young participants concluded, “When empathy grows, humanity shines.”

The event reflected Apeejay School Mahavir Marg’s commitment to nurturing not just bright minds but also compassionate hearts, preparing learners to become responsible, emotionally intelligent individuals who contribute positively to society.
