A young talent, 10-year-old Kyra Sharma,  has recently made the city of Punjab beam with joy. Her exceptional skills and unwavering passion for dance have earned her a prestigious honour at an international-level dance competition held in Nepal. The student of Apeejay School, Model Town in Jalandhar bagged the third prize in the 7th Indo-Nepal Sports Festival 2023 conducted early this month. Her remarkable talent in Hip Hop has already set her on the path to becoming a dance sensation. She may soon have the opportunity to showcase her dancing skills in Spain. Read on to know more about her.

A Passion for Dance

From a tender age of four, Kyra harboured a deep-rooted passion for dance. Her journey began when she took her first steps by looking at the television screen at home. She often danced to the beats of Bollywood numbers and eventually began to search up YouTube to learn the art.

Recognising her natural talent and dedication, soon after, her mother enrolled her in formal dance training at a Jalandhar-based dance studio called Studio Antara. Since then, Kyra has consistently demonstrated her commitment to mastering various dance forms. However, it is her love for Bollywood and Hip Hop that truly sets her apart. The young dancer says, “I love the Korean girls’ band, Blackpink. Their beats get me grooving. Besides, my mother inspires me. She truly encourages my endeavours.” Kyra hopes to take up dance professionally in the future and looks up to dancers like Vartika Jha and Tushar Shetty.

Hip Hop Sensation in the Making

Kyra’s mesmerising performances in Hip Hop have captivated audiences and judges alike. With her exceptional energy, impeccable timing, and effortless execution, she brings life to every beat. Her innate ability to connect with the music and express herself through movement is beyond her years. Whether it’s the precision of her popping and locking or the fluidity of her freestyle, Kyra’s dance prowess is simply astonishing.

According to her mother, Mrs Jyoti Tiwari, “Kyra is very creative. I accompany her to every dance competition. From her makeup to moves, I am with her to perfect it all. Due to the support, she feels that she can conquer larger skies. I am proud of her accomplishments.” Mrs Tiwari is a reiki practitioner in Jalandhar. Her husband, Mr Ankur Sharma is a Human Resource professional.

Victory at an International Dance Competition

Recently, Kyra participated in an international-level dance competition, against exceptionally talented dancers from around the world. With her skillful movements and electrifying stage presence, Kyra left the audience spellbound and the judges in awe. Her dedication and hard work paid off as she emerged victorious, bringing home a well-deserved honour for herself and her country. Moreover, through dance, Kyra is getting an opportunity to participate in cultural exchanges as well as visit different countries.

A Glimpse into the Future

Kyra’s recent achievement has opened up exciting opportunities for her budding career. She might even have the chance to participate in a prestigious dance competition in Spain. This opportunity could prove to be a significant stepping stone in her journey to becoming a globally recognised sensation.

Support and Encouragement

Behind Kyra’s success lies a network of family, friends, and mentors who have nurtured her talent and encouraged her to pursue her dreams. Her parents and grandparents have been pillars of support, ensuring that she receives the best dance training and exposure to various dance styles. The dance faculty at Apeejay School, Model Town, have also played a vital role in Kyra’s growth, providing guidance and encouragement every step of the way.

Mrs Tiwari credits her school for engaging her in as many extra-curricular activities. “I am blessed that my daughter has the opportunity to study at Apeejay. Her teachers are doing great efforts to make her learn. They have nurtured her skills and interests. Therefore, she is able to manage her academics.” Sharing a word of advice for fellow parents, Mrs Tiwari says, “Listen to your child. Don’t push your interests on them and allow them to flourish in their chosen field.”

As this little girl continues to hone her craft, we eagerly await her future performances and wish her all the best in her quest. And who knows, soon we might be witnessing her awe-inspiring moves in Spain, representing both her city and her country on the global stage.
