Srishty Gupta was Junior Engineer Designer with Line The Design Firm or LTDF, a boutique architecture and interior design firm located in Mehrauli, Delhi. She is currently on a sabbatical from work as she is preparing for her IELTS exam. In a quick conversation, the interior designer speaks about the qualities required in her profession as well as hints about her future plans. Read edited excerpts:

Tell us about the top most project you’ve worked on?

The Catriona Apartments in Gurgaon was a renovation project and was one of my best projects so far. Also, The Looks Salon at Select City Walk, Saket, was another great project I worked on. One was commercial, one was residential.

So usually, how did your day look at work?

I generally have a packed day at work. I have to make many 2-D and 3-D drawings. I used to go for site visits and attend client meetings. This is followed by market exploration for material selections. So, it is indeed a busy day at work.

What makes life exciting as an interior designer?

It isn’t like a 9-5 job. I need to explore markets for the materials needed. Then, I love making mood boards and working on concept presentations. Mood boards represent the ambience of the place, the client’s mood for the place, minimalist or luxury as well as the colour theme. These are the interesting parts of this profession.

One quality every designer must have?

The knowledge of materials is the most important thing. S/he should know where to get the particular materials in the market. They must explore the markets extensively.

What are your future ambitions?

I want to pursue my Masters in London. I have got the letter from Manchester, however, I am also thinking of Glasgow University in Scotland.
