Apeejay School of Management (ASM), which is committed to making students industry-ready, has been conducting a series of workshops on job interview preparation, resume customisation, relationship building in the corporate world, picking the right job profile, career planning, and more. The resource person for the workshops is an alumnus of the institute, Jaffy Gill, who now works as a Project Manager at Kantar, a data analytics and brand consulting company.
“We have already done about four to five workshops,” the alumnus shares. “The workshops have been conducted in different batches for both first-year and final-year students, many of whom got placed recently. The response from the students has been good. Some of them got back to me to share how the workshops helped them make informed career decisions.”
Jaffy, who plans to do a few more of these sessions, was invited by the ASM faculty as part of the alumni-led workshops that Apeejay conducts frequently for students to provide industry exposure. “Students have a lot of queries when it comes to getting a job. A lot of them tend to focus only on a high salary package. While that is the end goal, you need to know the path to reach it. This involves shaping your personality, learning skills, and gaining relevant work experience. And for this, you need to carve out a suitable career strategy. This is where the workshops will be helpful for students in understanding how to work on their strengths and weaknesses,” he says.

Sharing tips for job seekers, Jaffy adds, “One should focus on improving basic communication skills, which is extremely important when they are facing a recruiter. Second, they must set realistic expectations when it comes to a job profile and a salary package. In any professional field, you have to be ready to work very hard especially through the initial years to achieve the kind of success you aspire for.”
