‘The sports facilities made the school stand out’

Her daughter has now gone to Class I and joined Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, in the nursery. Since joining, she has been doing well. She is active, well-adjusted, and comfortable participating in different activities. “I liked the school’s sports facilities, including its spacious sports area and swimming pools. I had also heard positive things about the school from a friend whose children are still studying here. How is she doing academically?

She is doing well academically. I spend a lot of time teaching and working with her, and she has a very good grasp of ability. She understands concepts quickly and can often work on material beyond her current class level. For example, she can understand mathematics concepts taught in Class II, even though she is currently in Class I.

Does she enjoy participating in sports and other activities?

Yes, she participates enthusiastically in almost everything. She is part of the sports crew and is currently exploring different sports and activities. At this stage, she enjoys trying everything rather than focusing on one particular activity.

How has your experience been with the school’s teaching methodology?

My experience has been good. The interaction with the teachers is positive, and I receive regular feedback about my daughter.

How do you manage to spend time with your daughter while working as a data analyst?

I make it a point to spend time with her every day. We play together, and she enjoys activities such as chess. Learning and playing are part of our everyday routine rather than something we reserve only for weekends.

What advice would you give to other parents?

My only message to parents is to put their phones aside and spend time with their children. One of the major problems in parenting today is that parents themselves are constantly on their phones. My daughter has very limited screen time. She does not use a phone or iPad in front of me without permission. This is not because I constantly scold or restrict her, but because she does not see me spending all my time on a screen.

How do you encourage her to stay away from screens?

Children follow what they see their parents doing. When parents stay away from screens and engage in other activities, children naturally begin to do the same. My daughter joins me in everyday household activities. When I clean the bathroom or wash clothes, she tries to help me. In my view, a child’s habits depend greatly on the example set by the parents.

How do these everyday activities contribute to her personality development?

These activities make her more mature, connected, and understanding. They teach her responsibility and help her become more aware of the people and situations around her. I also have a child with special needs, and this has made Disha more mature and sensitive. She understands certain situations and challenges better because of her experiences at home.
