From excelling in academics to leading on the sports field, Suraj Singh Rawat, an Integrated Biotechnology student at Apeejay Stya University, has made the most of every opportunity during his university journey. Serving as Sports Captain while pursuing his studies helped him develop leadership, teamwork, and time-management skills. His internship at Premas Biotech Pvt. Ltd. further strengthened his technical expertise in downstream processing and biopharmaceutical manufacturing, reinforcing his aspiration to build a successful career in the biotechnology industry. Read edited excerpts:
Where are you interning? What are your learning aspirations from your internship?
I completed my internship at Premas Biotech Pvt. Ltd., where I worked in downstream processing. I gained practical exposure to Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF), AKTA process, purification of proteins, chromatography, filter integrity testing, GMP documentation, spray drying, and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. My aspiration is to deepen my expertise in industrial biotechnology and advanced bioprocessing.
Why do you think this internship is important?
I believe this internship was extremely important because it gave me hands-on experience in a biotechnology manufacturing company. During my internship, I learned how therapeutic proteins are recovered and purified using downstream processing techniques. I gained practical exposure to protein purification methods such as chromatography, Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF), filter integrity testing, and GMP documentation. Understanding how proteins are recovered, purified, and prepared for pharmaceutical applications was one of the most valuable aspects of my internship. This practical experience helped me connect my academic knowledge with real industrial processes and strengthened my interest in pursuing a career in protein manufacturing and biopharmaceutical production.
What is your future plan?
My goal is to build a successful career in the biotechnology and biopharmaceutical industry, particularly in downstream processing and bioprocess development, while continuously upgrading my knowledge and skills.
