The celebration of Earth Day at Apeejay School, Panchsheel Park, was a vibrant and meaningful affair that brought together students across grades to reflect on the importance of protecting our planet. With the theme Our Power, Our Planet, the day was marked by engaging assemblies and creative classroom activities that inspired young learners to become responsible stewards of the environment.

The students of Classes II-A and II-B conducted a special assembly that thoughtfully highlighted the significance of environmental conservation. The programme began with a serene prayer, setting a reflective tone for the morning, followed by the Thought of the Day and the Word of the Day “Sustainability.” This helped students understand the importance of using resources wisely and making conscious choices for a better future.

The assembly featured a range of expressive presentations, including a meaningful poem, an engaging skit, and a melodious song, all centred around caring for the Earth. Adding energy and enthusiasm to the event were lively dance performances on We Are the World and Tik Tik Plastic, which creatively conveyed messages about environmental awareness and the urgent need to reduce plastic usage. Through these performances, students effectively communicated simple yet impactful practices such as saving electricity, conserving water, managing waste responsibly, and keeping their surroundings clean and green.

The Principal of the school, addressed the gathering, encouraging everyone to adopt small but meaningful steps in their daily lives to contribute towards a healthier planet. The assembly concluded with a pledge taken by the students to protect the environment, followed by the National Anthem. The message, “The Earth is what we all have in common,” resonated deeply, leaving a lasting impression on all present. Overall, the assembly was both informative and inspiring, motivating students to embrace their role as responsible global citizens.

The spirit of Earth Day extended to the youngest members of the school as well. The nursery and kindergarten students celebrated the occasion with great joy, curiosity, and creativity. In the nursery classrooms, children were introduced to the beauty of our planet through the enchanting story The Story of Earth, which sparked their imagination and wonder. This was followed by an interactive circle time, where the use of a globe and colourful picture cards helped them explore the diversity of plants and animals on Earth.

The little learners enthusiastically shared simple ways to care for the environment, demonstrating an early understanding of responsibility towards nature. Their creativity shone through a delightful hand impression activity, where they crafted their own versions of “Mother Earth” using vibrant colours. The celebration concluded on a cheerful note as the children sang You’ve Got the Whole Earth in Your Hands, filling the classrooms with joy and a sense of unity.

Kindergarten students also participated with equal enthusiasm in a sponge painting activity on Earth cut-outs. Using shades of blue and green, they created beautiful representations of land and water. Taking their creativity a step further, they transformed these artworks into impressive 3-D globes, showcasing both imagination and developing motor skills.

Through these thoughtfully designed activities, the young learners not only gained awareness about environmental conservation but also enhanced their artistic expression and fine motor abilities. The Earth Day celebrations across the school were truly enriching and memorable, instilling in every child a sense of love, respect, and responsibility towards our precious planet.
