As the Vice President of the Rotaract Club at Apeejay Stya University, Rtr. Philip J. Dolo embodies the spirit of service and leadership. Driven by a passion for community upliftment and personal growth, he shares how Rotaract has shaped his journey, strengthened his skills, and inspired purposeful social impact. Read edited excerpts:

What motivated you to join Rotaract and take up the leadership role of Vice President?

I was motivated to join Rotaract because of its strong focus on service, leadership, and community impact. I have always believed in giving back to society while growing personally and professionally. Taking up the role of Vice President allowed me to contribute at a deeper level, by guiding projects, supporting my team, and helping turn ideas into real social change.

How did you prepare for the selection process?

I prepared by understanding the vision and values of Rotaract, reflecting on my past leadership roles, and strengthening my communication and teamwork skills. I focused on being clear about why I wanted to lead, how I could add value to the club, and how I planned to support both the team and the community.

Can you share some of the most impactful social or community service projects led by your team?

Our team has been actively involved in social awareness campaigns, educational outreach, health and hygiene initiatives, and community engagement activities. Each project aimed at creating real impact, whether it was supporting students, spreading awareness, or providing help where it was most needed. What made these projects impactful was the unity and dedication of our members.

How do you keep your team motivated while organising club activities?

I believe motivation comes from appreciation, trust, and clear communication. I make sure every team member feels valued, heard, and involved in decision-making. I also encourage teamwork, recognise their efforts openly, and remind them of the purpose behind every activity, serving society and growing together as leaders.

How do you balance your academic responsibilities with your leadership role in the Rotaract Club?

Balancing both roles requires discipline, time management, and prioritisation. I plan my schedule in advance, set clear deadlines, and make sure my academic work is not compromised. At the same time, I remain committed to my leadership duties by staying organised and delegating tasks effectively within the team.

How has Apeejay Stya University supported the club’s vision and helped you grow as a socially responsible leader?

Apeejay Stya University has always been supportive by providing platforms, guidance, and encouragement for student leadership and social initiatives. The university’s environment motivates students to think beyond academics and work towards social responsibility, which has played a key role in shaping me as a student leader.

What advice would you give to students who want to join Rotaract and contribute to social causes?

My advice is simple, join with a genuine intention to serve. Be open to learning, take initiative, work with teamwork and humility, and don’t be afraid to lead or take responsibility. Rotaract is not just a club; it is a platform to grow as a leader, build character, and make a real difference in society.
