Just entering teenage and Dhriti Jain has taken her first magical step into the world of authorship. A bright Class 8 student of Apeejay School, Mahavir Marg, Jalandhar, Dhriti recently penned her debut book, Beyond This Magical Realm—a fantasy tale filled with hidden jewels, magical spells, and the unbreakable bond of friendship. With a spark in her eyes and imagination that knows no bounds, Dhriti opens up about her journey as a young writer, the inspiration behind her story, and what’s next in her creative adventure.
Dhriti, can you tell us what Beyond This Magical Realm is all about?
It’s the story of two friends who live in a fantasy world and are still school students. They accidentally discover a long-lost magical jewel, hidden for many years. As they try to uncover its secret, they have to first master their magical abilities—all while keeping up with their school life. So, it’s both a magical journey and a school-life adventure.
That’s an intriguing idea! What inspired this story—and why the fantasy genre?
Honestly, the idea came to me while I was just writing freely. I thought—why not fantasy? It’s one of the most fascinating genres for readers like me. I love imagining magical places and spells and creating something entirely new. That freedom is exciting.
How long did it take you to complete the book?
It took me around 10 to 15 days. Once I started writing, the story just flowed. I was enjoying the process so much, I couldn’t stop!
Were you inspired by any books you’ve read?
Yes! Harry Potter has always been a favourite. It definitely inspired me to try my hand at fantasy fiction. I also loved how spells were used in that world. In my book, I created my own spell too—Focus, focus! It’s simple, but it works like magic in the story.
How did your school teachers and classmates react to your book?
My classmates were surprised and a little shocked—it wasn’t something they expected! But my English teacher was very supportive. She guided me on how to choose better words and write in a more engaging style. That made a big difference.
What’s next for you as a writer? Have you started your next book?
Not yet. I’m still thinking of new ideas. But I know I want to keep writing. It makes me feel creative and confident.
