The School of Design and Visual Arts (SDVA) at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram recently conducted the Board of Studies (BoS) meeting, which was chaired by Prof. Sasi Gopal Menon, Dean, SDVA. The meeting organised under the able supervision of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Registrar of ASU, brought together esteemed faculty members and academic experts to refine curricular strategies and enhance teaching-learning frameworks in design education.
This BoS session served as a platform to reinforce the School’s commitment to academic integrity, industry relevance, and the holistic development of students as future creators and thought leaders.

The meeting underscored the importance of fostering deep creative inquiry and critical thinking in academic content to prepare students for complex real-world challenges. Emphasis was placed on adopting innovative pedagogical strategies, particularly reflective and experiential learning approaches, to enhance student engagement and understanding. A significant highlight was the push for stronger industry-academia collaboration, encouraging mentorship and project-based learning models that bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application. Additionally, the discussion focused on promoting interdisciplinary integration within the curriculum, ensuring that academic offerings remain globally relevant and socially impactful. These strategies aim to develop well-rounded learners equipped with the skills and mindset necessary for the evolving professional landscape.
Sharing his views, Mr. Jayant Gajera, an eminent artist, print maker & photographer, expressed, “Creative practice requires pedagogy that engages students in thought processes and individual observation of the mentees.”
Further, Prof. Sasi Gopal Menon, Dean of SDVA, said, “Industry-oriented mentors are essential to bridge academic learning with professional practice and its evolving demands.”

Following which, Dr. Tikendra Kumar Sahu, HoD & Member Secretary, highlighted, “The BoS meeting aligns the department’s curriculum and pedagogy to offer holistic and socially impactful design education.”
