Chandrajeet Dhara, a final year B.Tech Biotechnology student at Apeejay Stya University (ASU), Gurugram, has recently been selected for doing his final dissertation at the prestigious ICMR-NICPR (National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research) in the Bioinformatics Division. “I applied through the Institute’s standard procedures, and then there was an interview, following which I got selected,” he mentioned.
Having a keen interest in cancer genetics, nanotechnology, and medical immunology, the Apeejay student is currently serving as a member of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), American Society for Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (ASCPT), and British Society for Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) as well as is a Global Outreach member of American Society for Microbiology (ASM). He says, “I am volunteering as a peer reviewer in the Cureus Journal of Medical Science at the Springer Nature Group in Oncology, Internal Medicine, and Medical Immunology.”
Over the months, Chandrajeet has published several research articles in internationally reputed and Scopus-indexed journals like Spandidos Publications, Elsevier, and Bentham Science. Speaking to him in a quick interview, the budding researcher explains about his learning journey at the University and future aspirations:
What has been your learning while working on this dissertation?
It’s not the marks that matters, it’s the skills, mindset and critical thinking ability that makes you stand out of the crowd.
Why is it important to perform a dissertation as a student?
It is because it gives students a broad spectrum of what is the core application of their degree on the ground level. So, dissertation is the documentation of what one understands from his/her core discipline of study and how he/she significantly contributes to it.
Share about your learning journey at Apeejay Stya University
My growth in Apeejay has been a journey right from walking along the block of the university to representing my department and university at international conferences like Global Bio India 2023 and 2024, National and International conferences held in Jamia Millia Islamia as well as ICABET-2024 held in the Apeejay Stya University. Apart from academics, I had served as the President of Thespian Club ASU (the Theatre club of the university). It was a phenomenal journey from participating in mimicry and one-act plays to leading my director, actors, and co-actors team, and finally lifting the trophy at the Cultural Carnival 2024.
What are your future aspirations?
My future aspirations or aim is to pursue a masters degree in biotechnology and then a PhD in Cancer Genetics and contribute profoundly to the development of our nation in the science and technology sector.
