The Indian Constitution, a cornerstone of the nation’s democratic framework, embodies values of justice, equality, and freedom. To commemorate its adoption, Apeejay Stya University (ASU) celebrated the 75th National Constitution Day on November 26. The event, organised by the School of Legal Studies and School of Education, brought together students and faculty across disciplines. The Guest of Honour was Advocate Rajat Malhotra, a distinguished arbitration counsel featured in the Forbes Legal Power List 2021.

The day commenced with a book exhibition inaugurated by the Vice-chancellor, Professor (Dr) Vijay Vir Singh, alongside Advocate Malhotra. Books on the Constitution and its values were displayed, highlighting its relevance in shaping responsible citizens.

The dignitaries lit a ceremonial lamp, followed by a recital of the Preamble. Professor Vijay Vir Singh, in his address, spoke about the Constitution’s transformative role in India’s democratic journey. Advocate Malhotra captivated the audience with insights into the Constitution’s historical importance and its vision of an inclusive India, crafted by visionaries like Dr BR Ambedkar. His speech emphasized the Constitution’s role in promoting equality, civic responsibility, and social justice, resonating deeply with the attendees.

The day’s proceedings included engaging competitions post-lunch. A spirited quiz saw six teams vying for the top spot, with Pawan and Ariz from the School of Legal Studies emerging victorious. In the extempore competition, judged by Professor Sanjay Ahirwal, Dean School of Journalism and Mass Communication and Dean of Students Welfare, Sam Simon won first place, showcasing eloquence and critical thinking. Simultaneously, a poster-making competition outside the Art Gallery, adjudicated by Professor Sasi Gopal Menon and Professor Tikendra Sahoo, celebrated creativity, with Simran and Vishakha securing top positions.

The event concluded with a presidential address by Professor Ahirwal, who commended the participants for their enthusiasm and talent. Apeejay Stya University’s Constitution Day celebration served as a profound reminder of the democratic ideals that continue to guide India, inspiring the next generation to uphold and cherish these values.
